Dinosaur Expeditions Centre

The Dinosaur Expeditions, Conservation and Palaeoart Centre opened in 2013 at the Dinosaur Farm, on the Military Road near Brighstone, Isle of Wight. It has displays of Isle of Wight and international dinosaur fossils, a Palaeoart exhibition, a variety of children’s activities and a fossil gift shop.

Growing collection of fossils

We are on the site of Britain’s most complete Brachiosaurus dinosaur skeleton discovered in 1992.

We house a growing collection of scientifically important fossils including non-dinosaurs, Sauropods (Long-necked plant-eating dinosaurs), Theropods (Meat-eating dinosaurs) and part of a rare Polacanthus (plant-eating armoured dinosaur) skeleton. We also have a selection of international fossils from the Palaeozoic to the Pleistocene which help to tell the story of the evolution of life.

We support scientific research of fossils by working with other museums, universities and independent researchers to enable new discoveries to be made.

The UK’s first Palaeoart museum

The Dinosaur Expedition Centre is also the UK’s first dedicated Palaeoart museum with exhibits of paintings and sculptures by a number of renowned and up-and-coming palaeoartists.

Palaeoart helps visitors to understand and interpret the fossils and the palaeo-environment. We encourage and promote the creation of new works of Palaeoart by working with artists and advising them on the latest scientific developments in palaeobiology.

The Dinosaur Expeditions Centre is located in the heart of Dinosaur Island’s internationally important south-west Wight Cretaceous coastline. We act as a field centre for new fossil discoveries with new finds brought daily for identification during the summer months.

Children’s activities

We have several children’s activities suitable for all ages. Children can learn how to excavate and identify real fossils, handle replicas of the biggest dinosaur claws and create their own Palaeoart to go on public display or take home as a souvenir.

Gift shop

Our unique gift shop is stocked with locally sourced fossils, a range of different toys, books and games for all budgets.
